Back from NYC Update

Fresh back from the big city getting quality time in with my man-child who just turned 7. We did chemistry experiments, played chess, Scrabble, Equate (math version of Scrabble), went to an ill exhibit called H20=Life at the Museum of Natural History (water is serious) and had a great time.

I also got to link with some powerful people making it happen for the youth Erica Ford and the LIFE Camp Inc.cofounded by Ja-Rule (myspace.com/lifecampinc) held a youth summit promoting the I Love My Life Youth Summit at York College in Jamaica, Queens. Basically the issue of Black-on-Black murder and gun violence is serious in our communities across the nation. Shout out tot the Harlem Bartendaz gettin it for mental and physical well being in the hood Health Is Wealth Movement is Medicine...

Ok now to upcoming events:

Well u know it Wednesday so we are at Waid's tonight!! I KNOW U GOT SOUL Open Mic & Karaoke @ Waid's tonight. Free before 10. Please RSVP for list.

I've been paying more attention as of late to election 2008 as Obama vs. Billary and McCain vs. Mitney is poppin real hard. Shout out to Amanda Diva for her hillarical and thought provoking commentary on the divide in black community regarding Obama & Billary and old black politics vs. new black politics (that's us!):

Just as, if not more important, than national politics is local politics. Monday Feb. 5th is African American Legislative Day at the Capitol in Olympia (http://www.caa.wa.gov/index.shtml). It's an opportunity to speak to lawmakers about issues that are important to us and push for laws to benefit our community and against those that hurt us. Out of site out of mind so if you can make time to join us we have free buses to get you there.

Promenade 23 at 23rd and Jackson in Seattle (Bank of America parking lot)
Loading at 6:45 a.m., departing at 7:15, returning by 3:30 p.m.
Contact for seating: Central Area Chamber of Commerce, DeCharlene Williams, 206-322-8296
Tuesday (2/5) is the Official Jill Scott Concert Afterparty with Choklate and Raheem DeVaugn at Columbia City Theatre. It's gonna be crazy, I haven't seen Chokolate in a min so I know she got some goodies and Raheem DeVaughn is one of the nicest rising soul artists in the game.

Head's up for:

-Mon. Feb 18th - Laced Up Benefit Concert featuring U-N-I @ Chop Suey
-Sat. Feb. 23rd - Central Area Chamber of Commerce Small & Micro Business Seminar (Entrepreneurs hit me for more info)
