Seattle Mayor Mike Mcginn and WA State Liquor Board Policy Director Alan Rathburn to talk about changes Seattle's Nightlife #seattle #hiphopbiz

Mayor Mike McGinn's new nightlife initiative that would—among other things—allow bars to serve liquor past 2:00 a.m. Proponents say his initiative would quell the 2:00 a.m. push-out of all Seattle's drinkers onto the streets, which is a logistical nightmare for police and clubgoers trying to get home. But the later people stay out drinking, the fewer transportation options they have to get home—light rail stops running shortly after midnight, King County Metro is cutting 310,000 hours of bus service annually, and "there are not even remotely enough taxis in this city," says James Keblas, director of the Office for Film and Music. "It’s universally accepted by everybody that there’s not enough."

Will the state let Seattle adopt sweeping changes for bars, as proposed by the mayor's office and various city leaders, at the same time the state is facing huge changes to liquor stores?

Can the WSLCB roll back liquor hours for just one city—can they draw a bubble around Seattle? Can the liquor board see enough public support that they are willing to take the plunge?

The Mayor and LCB's policy director Alan Rathburn will be at Seattle's Nightlife Throwdown tonight to answer questions tonight at 8:00 p.m. at the Hunter Gatherer Lodge on Capitol Hill.
